It was an impressive debut for the Bob ChesneyUCLA Bruins, with UCLA heading north to pick up a Week 1 win over Cal 45-24. Everybody has seemed to have taken notice of the win, with UCLA alum Troy Aikman speaking highly of the program after the win.
Aikman, the three-time Super Bowl champion, has been involved with the program in recent years but he seems quite happy to have Chesney leading the team. Aikman appeared on the Rich Eisen Show and shared his thoughts on the Bruins new leader.
“It’s been a tough, gosh, it’s been a long time for UCLA,” Aikman said of the program’s struggles in recent years. “I’m a big supporter of UCLA and we hired Bob Chesney and this was his first game as the head coach. As someone who has been around a lot of really
great coaches, you just kind of know when someone has it. This guy has it and he’s proven it everywhere that he’s been.”
Aikman is an icon for the program, having been named an All-American and finishing third for the Heisman Trophy for the Bruins. Aikman spent 1986-1988 with UCLA, with the team going 28-7-1 during his time in Westwood. Now the former Bruins quarterback wants to see Chesney lead the program to that sort of success.“It was such a great hire for UCLA,” Aikman said. “Super excited about him and what he’s going to do for the program.”

UCLA may only be just 1-0 but it already has the program ready to celebrate Chesney for turning things around after the DeShaun Foster era.
