Are the UCLA Bruins closing in on their first major quarterback recruit in the Bob Chesney era? After attending UCLA’s home game on Saturday against Wisconsin, multiple reporters have predicted the Bruins to land 2028 quarterback Josiah Boyd.
Boyd is a four-star recruit, who 247 Sports has as the No. 9 quarterback in the class.
Boyd attends Vista del Lago High School in Riverside County, making UCLA a local option for Boyd.On3 Sports’ Greg Biggins and Brandon Huffman both predicted Boyd to wind up the Bruins. The fit makes sense, with Boyd getting to stay in Southern California and getting to join a UCLA program that's been on the rise since Chesney came to town. Boyd
Boyd is 6’3” and has received offers from Oregon, Ohio State and Florida. So
far this season with Vista del Lago, Boyd has put up 1,652 passing yards, 298 rushing yards with 27 total touchdowns. The young quarterback has completed 65% of his passes and throwing just three interceptions in his eight games.
Boyd announced that UCLA, Kentucky and Oregon are the three finalists for his commitment, which will be announced on Saturday, October 24th.
UCLA has hosted Boyd on a couple of visits but the Bruins might now be closing in on their first major addition at quarterback. Chesney and the new staff inherited Nico Iamaleava, his younger brother Madden, and added Ty Dieffenbach through the transfer portal but the team has not yet landed a big quarterback recruit.
Boyd might change that, giving UCLA a potential quarterback of the future while keeping a talented Southern California recruit in the area.
