There’s not too much love lost between the Oregon Ducks and the UCLA Bruins. The two schools have been conference rivals for over 50 years but that doesn’t mean that they can’t look out for one another.
A few weeks back, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore was injured in Los Angeles after taking a hit to the head in a game against USC. Following the game, UCLA head coach Bob Chesneyreached out to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning to see if he could provide any aid to Moore.
Moore ended up traveling back to Oregon with the team, ultimately not needing any assistance from Chesney. Lanning returned the favor this week, contacting Chesney after UCLA’s quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, went down with an injury on Saturday.
During Tuesday’s media availability, Chesney
made it clear that he was appreciative while adding some details.
“I think he’s stand-up as a man and as a football coach as you possibly can be. He not only called me about Nico, but he also called me when we were in the hotel when our plane was delayed,” Chesney said. “He was like ‘Is there anything we can help with? Do you need a place to go?’ Just that type of person.”
To add onto Iamaleava's injury, he was also struck in the face by an Oregon defender during the play. Both coaches have spoken about the alleged punch but it’s clear that there’s no bad blood between the two Big Ten Conference coaches.
