The UCLA Bruins have had more than their fair share of success against the San Diego State Aztecs but the last time that San Diego State visited the Rose Bowl, the team returned south with a victory. It was the first win for the Aztecs over the Bruins on the gridiron, with UCLA holding a 18-1 all-time advantage
UCLA has since been able to get a bit of revenge, knocking off San Diego State 35-10 in 2023 while the Bruins were ranked as the No. 24 team in the country. Both the loss in 2019 and the win in 2023 were Chip Kelly-led UCLA teams. The 2023 team was the final season of the Kelly tenure, before turning things over to DeShaun Foster, who didn’t make it two full seasons as the Bruins’ head coach.
A lot has changed since the last time that the two
Southern California programs have faced off. The Aztecs are now a part of the Pac-12 Conference, while UCLA has jumped to the Big Ten. San Diego State head coach Sean Lewis was hired shortly after the Aztecs’ loss to the Bruins in 2023, and since then, Lewis has posted a record of 13-13.
Things have changed for UCLA as well. New head coach Bob Chesney has brought in a new era of UCLA football, which appears to be an exciting one for Bruin fans. Chesney began his tenure with a 45-24 win over Cal, and now he looks to knock off another inner-state rival.
UCLA is favored by more than a touchdown in this weekend’s meeting between the Aztecs and the Bruins, with DraftKings having UCLA favored by 8.5 points as of Thursday afternoon. Saturday’s game will also serve as Chesney’s first home game with the Bruins at the Rose Bowl, giving the team even more incentive to handle business against a geographical rival.
