CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers are two days into an important training camp as the team looks to get everybody on the same page and build some important chemistry and cohesion with all of the new additions to the roster. There are a number of players added to the roster and coach Nick Nurse is looking to make sure everybody knows what they're doing.
He and his staff are also looking to get an idea of what they have in rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. The No. 22 pick of the draft is on a veteran-laden team, so it will be tough for him to truly get any real minutes on the depth chart, but training camp offers him the opportunity to showcase his skills for future chances to earn those minutes and make an impact.
Two days into camp, Philon
has caught the eye of Nurse.
"I mean, I've been super impressed with his vision and his passing and his offensive creation," Nurse stated. "He's really talented, but the vision is like I think really special. Like, he’s seeing things really early from distance, right? And delivering passes, so that's great. I was super impressed with him yesterday (Tuesday)."
The Sixers will be looking to win a title while also developing their younger players in order to set themselves up for the future. Philon may not be much of a factor on this current Sixers team as a rookie, but when considering his work ethic, his talent and skillset, one has to believe he will find a way to make things happen in the near future.
"His compete level and his fight level and he was really holding his own everywhere on the area," Nurse said of Philon's camp performance. "I mean, we're doing mostly defense now. So, he doesn't get to show all that flashy offense that he has, so I was super impressed with him yesterday in his competing level."
