LeBron James choosing to join the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency rocked the sports world. Everybody has an opinion now on what the future Hall of Famer brings to the City of Brotherly Love on the basketball court. He is still one of the best in the game currently after putting up a big season with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025-26 and will bring his immense talent and star power to Philadelphia.
James will join a franchise with a proud history of stars who have worn Sixers uniforms in the past. One of those stars is Allen Iverson, a Hall of Famer who played against James during his career, and with James as a member of Team USA in 2004. A lethal scorer during his career, Iverson knows what James can bring to Philadelphia and he joined "The
Stephen A. Smith Show" to give his reaction to James joining Philadelphia.
Iverson stated:
Just ecstatic, man. You know, I’m just happy for the city of Philadelphia, man. For the team, you know what I mean? The type of player he is, the type of person he is. I’m just happy, man. He brings a lot, you know what I mean? He really is the answer.
Iverson has always been one to respect the greats of the game, regardless of era. He has given a lot of love to today's stars and the greats of the era before his as well. He was going to respect James and allow him to make the decision that was best for him. He stated he wasn't going to try and recruit him to Philadelphia:
No, man. I stay in my own lane. You know what I mean? That was something that I know was probably hard for him to do. You know what I mean? With his family and Cleveland, and other spots that he was thinking about going to. I know it was hard enough. So, I definitely wasn't gonna try to put added pressure to the situation, man. I just sat back and just hoped for the best. It was a blessing that we was able to get him to the city, man, and have a chance to win a championship.
If there is one player who understands the pressure that Philadelphia fans will give to a star, it's Iverson. The 6-foot guard from Georgetown showed up for the Sixers every single night and will certainly be an outlet for James should he ever need anybody to lean on and talk to.
