For a player picked No. 40 in his draft, former Philadelphia 76ers guard Josh Richardson had one impressive career.

Richardson announced his retirement from basketball on Instagram on Wednesday night after 10 years in the league. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Miami Heat before he was sent to the Sixers in the infamous Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade deal.

In his one season in Philadelphia, he averaged 13.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. The Sixers then sent him to the Dallas Mavericks for Seth Curry. He was a solid player for Philadelphia during his one season, but it was an awkward fit with the overall roster and the Sixers made the move to send him to Dallas.

Richardson then played for the Boston Celtics, the San

Antonio Spurs, and the New Orleans Pelicans before a return to the Heat where he played the final two seasons of his career. He did not play in the 2025-26 season.
