BOSTON -- The Philadelphia 76ers went out and brought in Dean Wade on a deal early in free agency in an effort to build a roster that can seriously contend for a championship. Wade is the definition of a glue guy who can step in right away and give a team all of the little things they need to succeed.
The Sixers have seen some good efforts from Wade in training camp and in the preseason as he has shown his ability to be helpful. He doesn't need the ball to be impactful and he can knock down open looks from 3-point range as well as an ability to cut to the basket and make things happen.
Those little things is what impresses coach Nick Nurse.
"He's just super solid and he's really smart," Nurse said on Saturday in Boston. "There's things that you
notice when you're with him every day that you didn't know that he was that good at, right? Because you only see him a couple times a year, something like that. And now you see him on a daily basis, but he's been really really good."
Wade has shown the ability to play with the likes of LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and others as he makes his presence felt. He is a glue guy. A connector. A guy every serious contender needs to support the team's stars. Having a strong supporting cast is still an important part of winning in today's NBA.
"He's a really good addition," Nurse finished. "Just solid rebounder, solid defender, ball mover, shooter, just lots of things that he can do under the above average category, which is good."
The Sixers will finish up the preseason on Oct. 16 when they play host to the Boston Celtics in a preseason rematch.
