CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers have their eyes on winning a championship after the big additions made in the offseason. The Sixers brought in former finals MVPs Jaylen Brown and LeBron James as well as 2-time champion in the form of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
A 13-year veteran, KCP has won titles with James and the Los Angeles Lakers (2020) and alongside Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets (2023). He's a career 36.5% shooter from deep and somebody who can do it all on the floor in terms of making winning plays for the group.
As he heads into his first season in Philadelphia, Caldwell-Pope gives his wisdom to a Sixers team looking to reach the mountaintop.
"I think just our chemistry is going to be the biggest part for us, being able to –
us liking each other, being able to come into work and being able to be around each other, have fun on and off the court," Caldwell-Pope explained. "I think that's going to be our biggest thing because we have so much talent from one through 12, or 15, however many guys we’ve got, and it's talent everywhere. So I think our biggest thing is just communicating with each other, learning each other's tendencies, and just trying to implement that on and off the court."
Building chemistry and cohesion is paramount to any team's success. It's important for the Sixers to have team-bonding activities off the floor such as going to dinners, watching movies together, watching big events such as the Super Bowl, for example, and such. Caldwell-Pope saw it with the Lakers and Nuggets. Now, the hope is to do the same with the Sixers.
"I think we're doing as much as we can right now," the veteran added. "Going to dinners, whatever it may be, just trying to hang out as much as possible. I think our biggest thing is just trying to do it in Philly at home, trying to get out and just enjoy each other here too as well, instead of everything on the road."
Of course, it's still early days, and they're still in the preseason part of the schedule, but the Sixers are still working right now to build that cohesion to make that future title run.
"I mean, season just started," Caldwell-Pope finished. "We've had a couple team dinners already, but it'll be more. Season’s just starting. Once we get on the road, once we get in a rhythm, everything will start popping up."
