NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Brooklyn Nets in the preseason on Thursday 114-108, but the important thing is, they were able to get some minutes and reps for their main stars.
The Sixers saw the unofficial debut for LeBron James and had him play alongside Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe in some real minutes. There were positive results, but there were also some tough moments for Embiid.
The big fella committed eight turnovers and only shot 1-for-5 on the night. With that being said, if one has paid attention to Embiid's career, he is a notoriously slow starter and it takes him some games to get into rhythm.
"Yeah, just take care of the ball, obviously," Embiid said after the loss. "It’s the preseason,
especially for me, I got to do a better job of taking care of the ball. But, first game, my first few games usually every year (are like this). So yeah, it's going to take a few games to get there and just got to do a better job."
It helps Embiid that he was able to play alongside some of the top players in the league in the form of James and Brown. While the turnovers are, obviously, unacceptable, Embiid will figure it out and lean on his teammates at the moment.
"Obviously, it helps," Embiid explained. "I think the more you get on the floor, the better you become, and you get an even better feel. For tonight, I feel like everybody was just trying to make the right play over and over and over. So, we just got to make sure we keep doing that, take care of the ball. But nothing (worrisome). Obviously, we have a pretty good chance to be a good transition team, but we got to make sure we are locked in defensively."
The Sixers face the Boston Celtics in the preseason on Saturday.
