The Philadelphia 76ers were hit with injury news Thursday afternoon as center Adem Bona was diagnosed with a left foot sprain. Bona, Philadelphia's backup center, suffered the injury during a workout. According to the team, Bona will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp, which is scheduled to begin September 29.
Entering his third season, the 23-year-old has been a reliable backup big man, averaging 5.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.2 blocks in 129 career appearances (16.6 minutes per game). Following a plethora of offseason moves made by the Sixers, Bona is expected to compete for a backup role with free agent addition Ariel Hukporti, who signed a one-year $3.4 million deal after winning an NBA championship last
season with the New York Knicks. Hukporti is entering his third NBA season as well but has played much more sparingly, with 79 appearances averaging 9.1 minutes per contest.
