The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a good start in the NBA Cup after they knocked off the New York Knicks on Friday. The Sixers are 1-0 in Group B play as they look to advance to the knockout rounds for the first time in Cup play. They have failed to advance in any of the first three seasons since Cup play was introduced in 2023.
The Sixers received a big game from Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James, Anfernee Simons, and VJ Edgecombe offensively while Joel Embiid had big moments on the defensive end in order to seal the deal. It was a big way to start group play in the Cup as they move forward in an effort to advance.
Here is a look at the Group B standings following the win over the Knicks:
Oct. 31 Group B standings
- Miami Heat 1-0 +20 point differential
- Philadelphia 76ers 1-0 +5 point differential
- Cleveland Cavaliers 0-0
- New York Knicks 0-1 -5 point differential
- Indiana Pacers 0-1 -20 point differential
The Heat are in front of the Sixers based on point differential.
While records are, obviously, important, it also helps to run up the score a little bit. Point differential is a big difference maker in these Cup games.
