The move of LeBron James joining the Philadelphia 76ers has everybody buzzing. Arguably the greatest player to ever play the game has decided to continue his brilliant career in the City of Brotherly Love and join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown to form one of the more talented starting lineups in NBA history.
James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, has spent the previous eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers as he helped the franchise win a title in 2020. He won finals MVP and also led the Lakers from the play-in tournament to the Western Conference finals in 2023.
As James now heads to join Embiid and the Sixers, former Philadelphia coach Brett Brown gave his thoughts on the move in an interview with Liberty Ballers:
"I think
it’s fantastic for the city,” Brown said over the phone Tuesday night, as he drove with his family to Ventnor, NJ, for some shore time. “I think it’s an endorsement to the players and Nick (Nurse) that LeBron chose them. There’s a lot of great things to be admitted with LeBron’s decision to come to Philadelphia, and Jaylen (Brown)’s trade. It’s real. They’ve got a team that is as good as anybody in the league. We’re always relying on health and luck and all that, but shoot, to start with, they put that group on the floor..."
Brown, obviously, has a great relationship with Embiid from his time in the City of Brotherly Love. After he scored 70 points against Brown's San Antonio Spurs back in 2024, the two shared a moment and Embiid gave his first NBA coach a lot of love and respect. Now, Brown returns the favor as he continued with Liberty Ballers:
“And you know what?” Brett Brown said. “Down deep, I’m really happy for Joel. It’s an opportunity, maybe the last, that he can do what I know down deep he wants to do – and that’s to be remembered as a champion. There’s a side of me that thinks like that as it relates to my old days with Philadelphia, and Joel especially."
It will certainly take some time to make it all work, but the Sixers should certainly be in the mix for coming out of the Eastern Conference in the upcoming season. Philadelphia will be looking to end its title drought with James and Embiid leading the way.
