The decision of LeBron James to join the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency rather than any of the other destinations that were in the running for him left some shocked. It made so much sense for him to finish his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Miami Heat. After all, he has history with both teams and it would have made sense to finish at either spot.
It also made sense for him to join the Golden State Warriors where he can play with close friends such as Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. In the end, James chose the Sixers where he can play with Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe as they look to help Philadelphia end a long title drought.
Green hopped on his podcast, "The Draymond Green Show" to give his take
on James joining Philadelphia rather than Golden State:
You look at Golden State, and I ultimately don't think Bron was ever able to get over the history, and I understand it. I get it. What we ultimately always knew is, like, that's the hurdle to get over. We live in a day and age where everybody who doesn't have anything to say have something to say. And so, he's gonna get crushed if he comes to the Warriors, 'Aw, man you went to team up with Steph. Aw, you had to go to them, dah, dah, dah,' and ultimately I think that weighed in on the decision a lot. That played a big role in the Warriors not landing LeBron.

To Green's point, the world is what it is. Everybody has to say something about a player's legacy and how that player won championships. If James were to team up with the Warriors--who beat him in the finals in 2015, 2017, and 2018--then people will tear him down. It's, unfortunately, the way the world works. One has to wonder if that did play a part in him joining the Sixers rather than the Warriors.
