CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers are two days into training camp and now is the time for players to really stand out and show what they can do at this stage of the game. The Sixers are in the process of building chemistry, getting everybody on the same page, and figuring out the best lineups for the challenges ahead.
One player who has begun to stand out is 13-year veteran Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. A 2-time champion and somebody who has proven himself at every stop he's been to, the Sixers will be leaning on KCP to be a guy who brings that experience, know-how, wisdom, and championship-level production to Philadelphia.
Two days into training camp, Tyrese Maxey has noticed a lot about his new teammate.
"He’s been fantastic the past 2 days,
honestly," Maxey beamed of Caldwell-Pope. "He’s in shape. He’s picking up the ball. He’s shooting the ball really well. I think he’s gonna be a great addition for us."
In fact, Maxey thinks Caldwell-Pope will be a perfect mentor for somebody like third-year wing Justin Edwards. When considering they both have similar games, Maxey is hoping Edwards can pick up some of Caldwell-Pope's tendencies for the future.
"I also think he's going to be great for guys like Justin," he continued. "Like, really, really, really good. You know what I mean? Like, he's a 2-time champion that Justin can look at and see. You know, kind of the same role. A wing defender, shooter, Justin can score a little bit, too. So, I think that's a good vet for us and good vet for him to look at. So, KCP's been great."

Coming off a season in which he was limited to 51 games due to injury with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2025-26, Caldwell-Pope is looking forward to getting back on the floor and he is somebody who can do a number of different things. One has to believe the Sixers will benefit from having a player like him around.
"Just his understanding of the game," added Anfernee Simons. "He’s been in so many different roles, so he understands on the fly kind of how to adjust faster than anybody that would come in not being in the league as long as he was. He’s just gonna bring a veteran presence, IQ, his ability to guard and hit shots is gonna be helpful for us."
