The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that's built to win right now. That's what happens when the front office goes out and brings in the likes of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. With those additions to an already talented roster, the idea is for the Sixers to win a title right now.
However, what does this mean for the future Sixers? This is a roster that has some aging players, sure, but Philadelphia also has the chance to do some damage in the league for a while led by Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. That pairing is, arguably, the most intriguing part about this roster. Their development could fuel this team's future for a long time.
ESPN has come out with the future power rankings in the NBA as they try and get an idea of what the league will look
like in three years. The Sixers come in ranked No. 8 on the list:
LeBron James and an aging, injury-prone Joel Embiid might not help the 76ers for the entirety of the three-year span under consideration for these rankings, but they're key members for a title contender in 2026-27. And over the longer term, Tyrese Maxey and 2025 draftee VJ Edgecombe form one of the NBA's best young backcourts. Philadelphia doesn't have much flexibility after the Brown trade, but it now has one of the most talented rosters.
The Sixers are a team built to win now, and have a look to the future as well, and will be relying on a number of young players to make sure that future is intact. Coach Nick Nurse and his staff will look to develop the likes of Maxey, Edgecombe, rookie Labaron Philon Jr., young Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti, and others as they look to the future. It's a tall task to win now and develop at the same time, but Philadelphia has the capabilities of getting that done at a high level.
