PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers landing LeBron James is a major move in the East as everybody looks to make a run at the mountaintop. Especially, for a Sixers franchise that has not been past Round 2 since 2001 and has not won a championship since 1983. The addition of proven champion like James is somebody who can push them over the top.
The Sixers have so many talented and high IQ players on their roster around James in the form of Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe. When considering those players around him, James won't have to do as much other than getting everybody organized and take on more of a playmaking role while also understanding when he has to be aggressive. He's done it his whole career.
Before his Detroit
Pistons took on the Sixers, coach JB Bickerstaff gave his thoughts on the James move for Philadelphia.
"I mean, he's an elite basketball player overall, right?" Bickerstaff started. "So, I feel like he's one of those guys that can fit anywhere and play with anybody. His ability to play make, his IQ, he knows when to turn it on. When to get his teammates involved, when to pick his spots."
The Sixers started out 3-0 before falling to the Pistons on Sunday night, but James still put up 18 points and five assists. It's that cerebral style of play that James brings every night that will make a difference for the Sixers on an every night basis. Bickerstaff knows it as his Pistons will likely be battling the Sixers for Eastern Conference supremacy in the coming season.
"So, it's not a surprise that it's going to work because all those guys, and it just seems, again from the outside looking in, like they've bought into what they're trying to do," Bickerstaff finished. "And it's not always easy when you get that amount of talent together, but it seems, again small window, but it seems like it's been pretty seamless for him."
The Sixers will look to keep things moving in the right direction when they take on the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
