CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers convened for the first day of training camp on Tuesday as they look to get everybody on the same page and integrate all of the new pieces on the roster. This is a supremely talented group, but there is work to be done right now before the season starts.
The first good piece of news for the Sixers was the fact that Joel Embiid was able to get through his first full practice on Tuesday. The big fella had a healthy summer and was able to work hard on his body in order to prepare for what's to come. All of this is new for coach Nick Nurse as he heads into his fourth season coaching the Sixers.
"He looked great," Nurse beamed. "He looked great. Very good news from the standpoint of where it's been the last couple
years, last couple summers leading into today. He looked great. Full participant all the way through. It's great to see."
Embiid has not played in 40 games in any of the previous three seasons as he continues to get back to an MVP level for this group. The Sixers are hoping he can be at his healthy best as time moves on into the regular season, but it's obvious that the 2023 MVP winner has worked hard on his body.
"He looked good," marveled Anfernee Simons. "Everybody's been impressed around here about how he's came in and worked. You know what I mean? Joe is gonna be Joel. I mean, he's gonna be a dominant player always, and so we just need to continue for him to be himself as well. I think everybody's gonna be able to work around that."
The Sixers will continue camp throughout the week as they prepare for the inevitable challenges they will face.
