PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers will be without Jaylen Brown due to left patellar tendinopathy as they face the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup opener on Friday. The 5-time All-Star will be missing his first game of the year as the Sixers move forward with their season and into the Cup portion of their schedule.
Brown is averaging 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on the season as he continues to find his way and mesh with his new team. Coach Nick Nurse gave an update on Brown before the Sixers faced the Knicks back at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
"He reported soreness after the game in Indy," Nurse stated. "Wasn't able to go through shootaround today."
In terms of any concern, Nurse said the Sixers, obviously, want him out there. He just
knows that the star forward was not able to give it a go in shootaround, and therefore, will not push him this early in the season.
"Well, we want him out there, right?" Nurse explained. "So, I just know he wasn't able to play tonight."
Brown and Jabari Walker are out with the same injury designation, and one has to wonder what the timeline could look like for both.
"I think it's certainly different for each of them," Nurse finished. "Again, I think it's a timetable of treatment and pain management and getting them feeling better. Hopefully, they'll both be back soon."
The Sixers will face the Charlotte Hornets on the road on Saturday on the second night of a back-to-back.
