Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson has had a big influence on a lot of young athletes due to his style both on and off the court. Iverson was only 6-feet tall, but was willing to go toe-to-toe with the game's biggest players and he did things his way to set an example for everybody around him.
From basketball players and every athlete in between, Iverson certainly inspired a young generation to be just like him.
Tennis great Naomi Osaka walked onto the court for her tennis match on Monday against Anastasia Zakharova paying homage to the Sixers legend. Osaka had Iverson's trademark headband on as well as a sleeve the way Iverson used to wear his during his playing days.
In a quote toThe Athletic, Osaka stated:
“He’s a trailblazer. I think he’s
also someone that I look up to a lot, because he’s done a lot in fashion, whether it’s on purpose or not. He’s shifted the way that NBA players dress,” she said.
“I also think the whole conversation around clothes in sports and also just expressing yourself through style, I feel like he’s someone that I look up to in that regard."
Osaka won her match with Zakharova in straight sets on Monday night.
