As the Philadelphia 76ers head into the 2026-27 season, the focus and goal is to win a championship. This is a franchise that has its eyes on ending a few droughts after making so many big additions to the roster in order to push over the hump.
Tyrese Maxey will be the one to lead the charge. He averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 70 games in 2025-26 as he was named an All-Star for the second time in his career. The star guard is continuing to be the leader of this team amid the additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown and the return to health of Joel Embiid and he will continue to be the guy to lead this group.
HoopsHype ranked the top 100 players heading into the new season and Maxey comes in ranked 12th on the list:
Maxey
ranked fifth in points per game last season, 22nd in assists per game and 10th in steals per game, taking the next step in his development in a major way. The former Kentucky standout is lightning-quick, both in the open floor and in the halfcourt, possessing an elite first step, fantastic burst and a tidy crossover, making him a nightmare for foes to defend. Maxey boasts top-notch three-level scoring ability, thanks to both his speed with the ball, which helps him get to the basket and use his athleticism to finish in traffic, and his prowess for pulling up and hitting jumpers off the dribble when opponents sag down to defend the rim.
Maxey and the Sixers will open the season on Tuesday as they look to make a statement on the road against the defending champion New York Knicks.
