It’s summer in the NBA, so it’s time to learn history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.
Given that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the uniform No. 5, which has been worn by 28 of those players.
With that being said, here is a look at all eight players who wore the No. 5 uniform in Sixers history:
Johnny Macknowski
Macknowski played 117 games for the Syracuse Nationals while donning the No. 5 uniform and he averaged 7 points and 1.9 rebounds.
Paul Seymour
Seymour wore the No. 5 uniform for nine seasons and he averaged 9.8 points, 4 assists and 3.1 rebounds for the Nationals.
Dick Barnett
Known mostly for his time with the New York Knicks,
Barnett played for the Nationals for the first two seasons of his career. He averaged 15 points and 3.2 rebounds for Syracuse while donning the No. 5 uniform.
Paul Neumann
Neumann played 271 games across four seasons for the Nationals and the Sixers averaging 9.5 points and 3.1 assists.
Tom Van Arsdale
Van Arsdale played 117 games for the Sixers and averaged 18.6 points and 5.2 rebounds while donning No. 5.
Corey Gaines
Gaines wore two different uniforms for the Sixers. In his second stint with the franchise in the 1994-95 season, he averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds in 11 games with eight starts.
Elmer Bennett
Bennett played eight games for the Sixers while donning the No. 5 uniform and averaged 1.4 points and 1 assist.
Scott Skiles
Before he became a coach, Skiles had a solid playing career. In his final NBA season with the Sixers, he threw on the No. 5 uniform and averaged 6.3 points and 3.8 assists in 10 games with nine starts.
Kevin Ollie
Before getting into coaching, Ollie wore two different uniform numbers as a player for the Sixers. He wore No. 5 in his first stint with the franchise before returning later in his career and wearing No. 12.
Vonteego Cummings
Cummings played one season for the Sixers and averaged 3.3 points and 1 assist as a reliable bench piece.
Monty Williams
Another one who got into coaching, Williams played one season for the Sixers and averaged 4.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. It was the final season of his NBA career in 2002-03.
Kedrick Brown
Brown played eight games for the Sixers in the 2004-05 season and averaged 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds during those games.
Michael Bradley
Bradley wore two different uniform numbers for Philadelphia. He wore No. 5 in the 2005-06 season and averaged 1.5 points and 2.3 rebounds off the bench.
Andres Nocioni
Nocioni played two seasons with the Sixers to end his time in the NBA. He averaged 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds while giving the team a bit of a toughness edge.
Arnett Moultrie
Moultrie was a part of The Process era and averaged 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds during his two seasons with the Sixers.
Ish Smith
In his first go-around with the Sixers, Smith wore No. 5 and averaged 12 points and 6.1 assists with 2.5 rebounds. He was a little spark plug for Philadelphia at point guard in the second half of the 2014-15 season.
Kendall Marshall
Marshall played 30 games for the Sixers with six starts and averaged 3.7 points and 2.4 assists in the 2015-16 season.
Alex Poythress
Poythress played six games for the Sixers in the 2016-17 season and averaged 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per game.
Chasson Randle
Randle played eight games for the Sixers and averaged 5.3 points and 0.8 assists in the 2016-17 season. He finished that season with the Knicks.
Amir Johnson
Johnson played two seasons for the Sixers backing up Joel Embiid and averaged 4.3 points and 3.8 rebounds. He earned a start in Game 1 of the opening round of the 2018 playoffs when Embiid was hurt.
Zhaire Smith
Smith wore No. 8 as a rookie and No. 5 in his second season with the Sixers. He played a total of 13 games across two seasons and averaged 3.7 points and 1.2 rebounds.
Mason Jones
Jones played six games for the Sixers toward the end of the 2020-21 season and averaged 2.7 points and 0.7 rebounds.
Myles Powell
Powell played 11 games for the Sixers in the 2021-22 season when Philadelphia was hit with COVID-19 issues. He averaged 1.2 points and 0.5 assists in a pinch for them off the bench.
Montrezl Harrell
Harrell averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in the 2022-23 season for the Sixers. He re-signed with Philadelphia for the 2023-24 season, but he tore his ACL and missed the season.
Marcus Morris Sr.
Morris was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers in the James Harden trade and averaged 6.7 points and shot 40% from deep in 37 games before being moved at the deadline in the Buddy Hield deal. He ended the 2023-24 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Mo Bamba
Bamba began his one season with the Sixers wearing No. 7 before he switched to No. 5 after Philadelphia signed Kyle Lowry. He averaged 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds before signing with the Clippers in the 2024 offseason. He is now with the Utah Jazz.
Andre Drummond

Drummond began the 2024-25 season wearing No. 5 due to KJ Martin having the No. 1 uniform. Once Martin was moved, Drummond took back his customary No. 1 uniform that he wore in his initial go-around in Philadelphia in 2021-22.
Quentin Grimes
The Sixers acquired Grimes at the 2025 deadline and he played 103 games across one and a half seasons with Philadelphia. He averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists with the Sixers before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in this 2026 offseason.
