PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers will open the preseason on Monday when they play host to the New York Knicks, but one has to wonder who will be available when the Sixers take the floor that evening.
One has to wonder if somebody like LeBron James will give it a go after a hard week of training camp. The future Hall of Famer is entering year 24 and it would make sense for him to just sit back and rest up a bit. There are four preseason games on the docket before things get underway on Oct. 20 up in New York and it is fair to wonder if James will play in the exhibition.
With that being said, it's important to get some game reps for them when considering the total newness of this roster and how many players need to get on the floor. So, it is a balance.
"I mean, rest up, I don't know about resting up, but it is important for us to do a little bit of both," James stated. "I mean, obviously, what do we have? Four preseason games? So, it'd be good to get out there with some of our guys to just get a rhythm. At the same time, also not overdo it, because we're putting a lot into our practices right now, fine tuning what we want to do once the game come, but there'll be opportunities when we get out there in the preseason."
As far as his first week with the Sixers has gone, James has been impactful. He has been loud and vocal and he has made sure his teammates understand what's at stake. The elder statesman has felt welcomed since he has been around the team and he is finding a way to make himself comfortable in his new NBA home. Even with his family still so far away in Los Angeles.
"I’m still just making my rounds and getting better and better each day," he said. "As far as in the building, it's been very smooth, in the simple fact that everybody's been super welcoming. I've been able to implement some things in my voice, and as far as my command in how I play the game, and my experience of playing the game, I'm still getting more and more comfortable off the floor. As far as with the travel and without my family and things of that nature, so that's going to be a little bit of a challenge. But, everything's been good so far. It's been a great first week."
