Coming off a 30-18 loss to the USC Trojans last week, there were serious questions over who would start at quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes during their Week 10 matchup with the Oregon Ducks at home.
Starter Julian Sayin suffered an arm injury to his throwing arm the week prior in a win over the Indiana Hoosiers, forcing the Buckeyes to turn to backup Luke Fahey against the Trojans. While Fahey, a three-star true freshman, didn't turn it over in his first career start, he wasn't particularly dynamic in completing 21-of-38 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown. All things considered, it was a solid showing but one that didn't necessarily shut the door on the Buckeyes turning to third-stringer Tavien St. Clair, a five-star and a consensus
top-five quarterback in the 2025 class.
While Fahey didn't close the door on receiving a second start with his play, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day did exactly that on Tuesday. Day confirmed that Fahey would get the starting nod for the Buckeyes when they host the Ducks on Saturday, according to USA TODAY's Joey Kaufman.

Fahey did a solid job of getting the ball to superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who caught 10 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. But the biggest difference from Sayin to Fahey was Ohio State's inability to finish drives, as they settled for four field goals, three of which on drives that reached the red zone.
Yet Day is riding with Fahey instead of St. Clair with Ohio State's College Football Playoff chances on the line as they hold a 6-2 record with a matchup against the Ducks coming up on Saturday. Oregon, also led by backup quarterback Dylan Raiola with starter Dante Moore sidelined, will look to keep their own outside CFP hopes alive on the road against the Fahey-led Buckeyes.
