The Oregon Duckshave been battling the injury bug early on in this 2026 season, and it's having an impact on the field. In the Week 2 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon saw star tight end Jamari Johnson sidelined with an undisclosed injury, while starting left guard Douglas Utu sat out with an injury as well.
Multiple defendersleft the game with injuries throughout Saturday's action, including DT A'Mauri Washington and DB Carl Williams IV, while left guard Trent Ferguson — who started in place of Utu — was also knocked out with what ended up being a season-ending knee injury.
Fortunately, the Ducks face the Portland State Vikings on Friday night, an 0-3 FCS team not expected to pose a major test. This should allow Oregon to rest a lot
of players and prepare for a pivotal Week 4 matchup against the USC Trojans.
Here's our early look at who we think could potentially be out or limited in this game on Friday night.
Out/Not Playing
Wide Receiver Jalen Lott
5-star freshman WR Jalen Lott did not play in the season-opener against Boise State and was in street clothes with a wrap on his wrist. Dan Lanning confirmed on Monday that Lott underwent minor corrective surgery earlier this fall and would be expected to miss the next few weeks. Lott should return to the field sometime mid-season for the Ducks.
"Jalen will be down just for a little bit," Lanning said. "(He) had a minor corrective surgery on his hand."
Linebacker Brayden Platt
According to head coach Dan Lanning, Platt is still dealing with an undisclosed injury that held him out of the spring game earlier this year. Oregon's coach does not expect him to return to the field anytime soon.
"He's gonna be limited for a while with the injury he felt in the spring," Lanning said of Platt. "I don't want to put a timeline on it, but he's going to be out for some time until we see where he's at and continue to progress and challenge himself."
Defensive Lineman Tony Cumberland
After being involved in a car accident earlier this year, freshman defensive lineman Tony Cumberland is also expected to be sidelined for the foreseeable future, delaying his college debut.
"It's a work in progress with him," defensive line coach Tony Tuioti said. "I don't think it's going to be anything that we'll be able to see him soon. But he's made so much progress. I think the thing that's most important is that we have him with us, and just having him in the room brings a smile to all our faces."
Wide Receiver Dillon Gresham
After suffering a neck injury during fall camp a year ago, Gresham was held out for the entire 2025 season and has yet to return to the field. Oregon still has him on the roster, but it doesn't sound like he will be back anytime soon.
"There's not really a clear indication that Dillon's going to be able to help us here in the future," Lanning said of Gresham earlier this fall. "He'll be a part of our team, but you know, from a medical standpoint, I don't know if it's clear that he'd be able to."
Left Guard Trent Ferguson
After starting the game against Oklahoma State, Ferguson was forced to the sideline in the first half with a knee injury that Dan Lanning says is expected to hold him out for the remainder of the season.
"We won't probably get to see (Ferguson) again," Lanning said. "I feel bad for that kid because he's worked really hard."
Questionable To Play
Offensive Lineman Douglas Utu
Douglas Utu didn't play in this game against Oklahoma State, which was made even tougher by the fact that Ferguson went out with an early injury, leaving third-string guard Kawika Rogers to step in. We will see if Utu can come back for this week's game against Portland State, but like Johnson, it wouldn't be surprising to see him rest for another week.
Running Back Simeon Price
Colorado transfer RB Simeon Price was in street clothes for Oregon's game against Boise State, and did not make the trip to Stillwater for the Oklahoma State game.
DT A'Mauri Washington
Washington missed part of this game with an apparent injury, but came back for limited snaps in the fourth quarter with the Ducks needing more push on the defensive line. If this were a big game for Oregon on Friday against Portland State, he likely would play, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him rest and get ready for USC in Week 4.
Doubtful to Play
Tight End Jamari Johnson
Johnson was a surprise scratch from this past game after warming up pre-game, but was sporting street clothes after the team came back out to the sideline. Lanning said that he got dinged up last week in practice and was unable to go after testing it pre-game. He appears to be working to recover this week in practice, but it's unclear if he will play or not. With the Ducks heavy favorites against Portland State, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take another week off.
DB Carl Williams IV
Williams left the game in the fourth quarter on Saturday against Oklahoma State after taking a hard hit to the head while trying to tackle QB Drew Mestemaker. Lanning did not go into detail about his injury, but said that he would be monitored going forward.
