The Oregon Ducks are celebrating a monumental 41-27 victory over the USC Trojans, but there is still plenty of concern surrounding the status of their star quarterback.
Dan Lanning spoke to the media after the game and shared a brief update on Dante Moore, who left the game in the second quarter after taking a hit to the head from a USC defender.
“He’s in recovery, so I don’t want to speak too soon, but he’s moving; he has the ability to move,” Lanning said. “So, we’ll continue to assess him, but I don’t want to speak too soon, but he’s moving.”
Moore was down on the field for several minutes while he was placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. He was taken to Los Angeles General County Hospital, a few miles from the LA Memorial Coliseum.
Moore was able to move his legs and fingers as his teammates gathered around him on the field. Lanning has not spoken with Moore since the injury.
Lanning noted he wasn't sure whether Moore would travel with the team back to Eugene or if he would stay longer in Los Angeles. Several players noted that they played for Moore in the win. After scoring a touchdown soon after Moore's injury, both Evan Stewart and backup quarterback Dylan Raiola raised their hands to show the number five, honoring Moore.
If Moore is forced to miss extended time, the Ducks will roll with Raiola under center. The Nebraska transfer threw for nearly 300 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Moore against the Trojans. Lanning didn't want to speculate on Moore's current condition, but there could be more information when Lanning speaks to the media again on Monday.
