The bye week is a time for introspection, and that's exactly what the Oregon Ducks did this week. After an eventful four-game stretch to begin the year, they enjoyed a Week 5 bye to both rest and reboot before the final eight-week stretch run.
One of the Ducks' most glaring shortfalls through the first month if their safety play, as high-profile transfer Koi Perich hasn't lived up to expectations and returning starter Aaron Flowers has been a step late on multiple crucial plays thus far. Deciding whether a scheme shift or personnel shift is in order is something that will remains to be seen as the Ducks prepare for the UCLA Bruins to come to town in Week 6.
Ironically, some of the best play from former Ducks in the NFL this weekend was from, you
guessed it, safeties. Each of Evan Williams, Dillon Thieneman and Jevon Holland had standout days for their respective teams, continuing the trend of each making game-changing plays through the first four weeks of the 2026 season.
Other pro Ducks around the NFL had up-and-down days, especially at the quarterback position as a pair of passers struggled in Week 4. Without further ado, let's dive into a full roundup of pro Ducks' performances in the NFL this week.
S Evan Williams — Green Bay Packers
On track for a career year, Evan Williams continued on that path against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Needing a win to avoid dropping to 1-3, Williams totaled a team-high seven tackles, a sack, two pass deflections and an interception in the Packers' 17-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Williams leads the team in tackles (36) and is proving to be an integral part of the Green Bay defense unit.
S Dillon Thieneman — Chicago Bears
Without starting quarterback Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears rode a strong defensive performance for the second straight week led by rookie safety Dillon Thieneman's team-high seven tackles in their 23-12 victory over the New York Jets. Thieneman is the Bears' leading tackler with 30.
S Jevon Holland — New York Giants
Jevon Holland's strong start to his sixth season continued on Sunday, as he amassed seven tackles in the New York Giants' 36-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
QB Bo Nix — Denver Broncos
Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos' uneven performances continued in Week 4. Nix completed 25-of-42 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown that came in the fourth quarter, but the San Francisco 49ers managed to down Denver 24-14. Denver is now 2-2 and third in the AFC West.
RB Bucky Irving — Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Though the Buccaneers lost to the Packers, Bucky Irving carried the ball 16 times for 61 yards. With quarterback Baker Mayfield potentially out for multiple weeks, the onus may be on Irving to provide more production in the coming weeks for the 0-4 Buccaneers.
QB Justin Herbert — Los Angeles Chargers
The bad vibes continued for Justin Herbert in 2026, as he completed 19-of-31 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in a 30-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Chargers are now 0-4 and staring at a lost season just a month in.
LB Bryce Boettcher — Indianapolis Colts
Playing across the pond in London, Bryce Boettcher had five tackles, two of which solo, in the Indianapolis Colts' 30-13 victory over the Washington Commanders. After an 0-2 start, the Colts are now 2-2 after a pair of wins.
TE Juwan Johnson — New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints' second-leading receiver this year, Juwan Johnson caught six passes for 59 yards in the team's 45-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. After commanding buzz of competing for the NFC South, New Orleans has put itself in a 1-3 hole.
