Oregon Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart was booked on a DUII charge by the Springfield Police Department on Sunday morning following the team's win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, sources tells Ducks Wire. KATU News first reported the story early on Monday morning.
According to sources, Stewart was picked up by Springfield Police Officers in the early hours of Sunday morning and booked at 7 a.m. on the DUII charge, then later released to fellow teammate Dakorien Moore.
Rumors swirled on Sunday throughout the Oregon Ducks fanbase that multiple players were involved in a street-racing incident in Springfield, leading police on a high-speed pursuit. Ducks Wire has confirmed with SPD that the drivers in this pursuit were unidentified, and they had
no reason to suspect that they were connected to the University of Oregon football team.
Multiple members of the team were contacted in connection with the pursuit because they were in the area, but according to SPD, they were not facing any charges at this time.
According to SPD, the pursuit was unrelated to Stewart's DUII arrest.
Stewart did not play in Saturday's 17-14 win over Nebraska after being ruled out with an injury. Through the first six games of the year, Stewart is the leading receiver for the Ducks, with 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns.
