The Oregon Ducks men's basketball season starts in just over a week with a game against Seattle University. Despite that, long-time head coach Dana Altman announced on Wednesday morning that he would be retiring, effective immediately.
According to multiple reports, first reported by The Field of 68, Altman is planning to hang up his whistle after 16 years coaching in Eugene. Throughout his career, Altman coached for 37 seasons, spending time with Creighton, Kansas State, and Marshall as well.
During his time with the Ducks, Altman had an incredible career, going 564-382 with nine trips to the NCAA Tournament. Oregon made it to the Final Four in 2017.
Going forward, reports are that assistant coach Tony Stubblefield will take over as the interim
head coach for the 20216-27 season. Who take over as the official head coach after that is yet to be seen, but there's a good chance that Stubblefield could end up retaining that title.
