Terrance Ferguson appeared to be on the cusp of a breakout in his second NFL season. Unfortunately, that big moment for the former Oregon Ducks tight end will have to wait.
The Los Angeles Rams placed Ferguson on injured reserve on Friday ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. The former Duck injured his ankle last Sunday early in a game against the Denver Broncos. Although he returned to the game, Ferguson's role was minimal.
By taking a spot on the injured reserve, Ferguson will be forced to sit out at least the next four games while he recovers. Ferguson did not practice all week. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Ferguson, who was beginning to take on a bigger role in the Rams' offense. In a Week 2 win over the New
York Giants, Ferguson set career highs with six catches on nine targets and 54 yards, while also hauling in his first touchdown of the season.
Without Ferguson, the Rams will turn to veteran tight ends Davis Allen and Tyler Higbee, as well as rookie Max Klare.
As a rookie, Ferguson had a small role. He made 11 catches for 231 yards and three touchdowns, but he was expected to become a bigger playmaker this season. He started strong, but time will tell if he can pick up where he left off when he returns to the field. The earliest Ferguson would be able to return is on Nov. 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Ferguson is one of the most prolific tight ends in Oregon history. He set the program record for tight ends in receptions (134) and receiving touchdowns (16), and is second all-time in receiving yards (1,537). Ferguson also made history for tight ends at Oregon in the Ducks' 2024 campaign with 43 catches. The Rams selected Ferguson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
