Jabbar Muhammad was one of the stars of preseason Week 1 in the NFL in 2026, recording a team-high six tackles including a game-winning pass deflection on the final play of the game for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He put forth another excellent effort in Week 2, tying for the team-lead with another six-tackle performance before finishing with three tackles in the finale.
Despite a string of strong play throughout the preseason, the Jaguars have waived the former Oregon Ducks cornerback, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. There was buzz that Muhammad would make the final 53-man roster in Jacksonville after being on the team's practice squad for all of last season, but those hopes have been dashed.
Muhammad will still have an opportunity to land elsewhere
in the league, as each of the 31 other teams have a chance to add him to their own roster via the waiver wire over the next 24 hours by placing a claim. But if he passes through unclaimed in the waiver wire, he remains a candidate for the Jaguars' practice squad for a second straight season.
Jaguars are waiving cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, who spent last season on their practice squad.

The 5-foot-10 cover man began his college career with the Oklahoma State Cowboys for three seasons, then transferred to the Washington Huskies for the 2023 campaign. Looking for a home to finish out his final year, Muhammad found his way to Oregon, where he posted a stat line of 41 tackles and 12 pass deflections. In five seasons, he amassed 159 tackles, 38 pass deflections, four interceptions, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
A solid college cornerback but one not viewed as a significant pro prospect, Muhammad went undrafted in 2025 but latched on with the Jaguars. He remained on the practice squad for the entirety of last season, failing to appear in a single game during Jacksonville's 13-4 campaign.
While he certainly took steps forward and showed that he can hold his own at the professional level, the hill remains tall for Muhammad to fully crack into an NFL cornerback rotation.
