The Oregon Ducks emerged from their first victory of the season against Boise State without many injury concerns. However, a few players that fans have kept their eye on during fall camp didn't suit up for the game. Heading into the first road game of the season at Oklahoma State, the Ducks are hoping to get a few of those guys back.
In Saturday's win, the Ducks were without freshman five-star wideout Jalen Lott, transfer receiver Iverson Hooks and transfer running back Simeon Price. All three playmakers were in street clothes on the sideline as they healed from various injuries.
Rumors have swirled that Lott is dealing with a hand injury that could sideline him for multiple games. On Monday, Dan Lanning noted that the Ducks will be without the freshman
wideout for a little bit, but he could return at some point this season.
In better news, Hooks could return as soon as this weekend after suffering an apparent injury in the lead-up to Week 1.
"Jalen will be down just for a little bit," Lanning said. "(He) had a minor corrective surgery on his hand. Iverson tweaked his hamstring in the middle of last week. He just wasn't able to go full strength. Think we'll have him back this week."
The Ducks also experimented with different looks along the offensive line against Boise State, but were down a few key players. Douglas Utu started at left guard but left midway through the game and did not return after being replaced by Trent Ferguson. Freshman Tommy Tofi, who was also expected to play a role at guard or tackle, surprisingly did not see any playing time.
Lanning did not offer an update on Utu or any reason behind Tofi's absence from the field. As of now, both could see the field on Saturday for a game in Stillwater that is expected to reach triple digits in temperature. The Ducks could use a healthy bench along the offensive line to swap in and out with the heat playing a factor.
Oregon will turn the page this week and hope to get players healthy before the first road trip of the season. The Ducks will travel to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State on Sept. 12, with kickoff set for 9 a.m. PT.
