Stephen Curry's future has been a consistent topic of discussion among Golden State Warriors fans this summer. The 38-year-old superstar is entering a one-year, $62.5 million contract, and with no extension currently agreed upon, he could become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. As such, both the Warriors and Curry have spent the offseason answering questions regarding a potential extension and whether he will sign a deal before the start of the season.
However, as training camp rapidly approaches, Curry and the Warriors are yet to reach an agreement on a contract to extend his stay in the Bay Area. Fortunately, the veteran guard doesn't seem too concerned about the current situation. During his appearance at Oakland’s Madison
Park Elementary, Curry admitted that he's taking a patient approach to his ongoing negotiations with the front office.
“There are just dynamics of where we’ve been the last four years, where we’re trying to go, and things that are related to my contract can determine a lot of different things,” Curry said, via the San Jose Mercury News. “I’m still having those conversations … I’ve told everybody that you’ll know when I’m making a decision that’s right and ready to move forward, but it’s not a distraction for me at all, and hopefully not for the team either.”
Both Curry and the Warriors appear keen to keep their partnership going for as long as Curry is willing to continue in the NBA. Therefore, an extension is likely a formality that can be dealt with at any point during the season. Still, until Curry signs on the dotted line, speculation over his future will persist. Whether that speculation acts as a catalyst to get an extension sorted out will remain to be seen.
