On Saturday, October 10, the Golden State Warriors agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract extension with Brandin Podziemski. The contract is fully guaranteed and includes a mutual option for the final season, the 2031-32 season. Furthermore, the contract also includes a trade kicker, per ESPN's Anthony Slater.
Golden State selected Podziemski with the 19th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Since then, he's grown into a key contributor for Steve Kerr's team, while showing slow, steady improvement across his game. Extending Podziemski keeps one of the Warriors' best and most versatile young talents around for the foreseeable future.
When speaking to the media on Sunday, October 11, head coach Steve Kerr shared his thoughts on Podziemski's extension
and why the deal is mutually beneficial.
“Really happy for us,” Kerr said. “It’s a win-win. He should be very proud of the work he’s put in to get to this place and put himself in this position...I’m just really excited about his year-to-year growth,” Kerr said. “What a good player he is already, and how much better he can get."
Podziemski projects to be a member of Golden State's starting rotation this season, and has been part of the Warriors starting five in all three of the postseason games he's suited up for. His ability to connect the offense while also providing secondary creation and shot-making makes him a logical fit in Kerr's primary rotation.
Now, with a new contract secured, Podziemski will undoubtedly be focused on continuing to improve and helping the Warriors make some noise in the Western Conference this season. Clearly, the franchise believes he can play a big role.
