Stephen Curry's long-term future with the Golden State Warriors has been a discussion point all summer. The veteran superstar enters into a previously signed one-year $62.5 million contract this season, meaning he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer, unless he signs another extension, of course. As such, some sections of the media have begun floating ideas that would see Curry's tenure in the Bay Area come to an end.
In a recent episode of the "All The Smoke" podcast, former Warriors wing Stephen Jackson pinpointed the San Antonio Spurs as a logical trade partner, should Golden State decide now is the time to enter the post- Curry era. Jackson suggested a potential deal involving De'Aaron Fox and future draft capital as part of any
trade package.
“San Antonio for me,” Jackson said when discussing potential new teams for Curry. "You got De’Aaron Fox. They can package one of those, and I ain’t even talking about [Dylan] Harper, or [Stephon] Castle, they got two big draft picks this year, so they did well in the draft. So they got the pieces to move for a Steph with De’Aaron Fox. I think that would be great."
Curry is currently eligible for a two-year contract extension. It's highly likely both he and the Warriors will reach an agreement to extend his tenure with the franchise. However, should the situation change, the Spurs would indeed be a potential trade partner, primarily because of the talent they can offer in a deal and the draft picks they have available.
For now, though, Warriors fans will likely approach the upcoming season with the belief that this isn't Curry's final season in a Golden State uniform. After all, he's given no indication to believe otherwise.
