agreed to a two-year $40 million extension to remain with the Golden State Warriors. While Porzingis was expected to be fully healthy entering the 2026-27 season, he was sidelined during training camp due to illness.
Since returning to California, members of the Warriors organization have addressed his absence, including Al Horford and head coach Steve Kerr. When speaking to the media, Horford revealed that he hasn't seen or spoken to Porzingis. "We just don’t have much information. So I think for us it’s just hoping he gets right, gets better." These two have a stronger bond than most, as Horford and Porzingis have been teammates together in both Golden State and in Boston, where they won a championship together.
As for Kerr, he also admitted
that he hasn't seen the Latvian big man. However, Kerr stated, "I think he'll be around now," considering the Warriors are back from Hawaii.
Last season, in 15 games for Golden State, the former No. 4 overall pick averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.1 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game. If healthy, Porzingis could help transform the Warriors' frontcourt.
