The Golden State Warriors recently signed Brandin Podziemski to a five-year, $110 million rookie-scale contract extension. The deal includes a mutual option in year four and a player option in year five. The new contract will kick in ahead of the 2027-28 season and is a reward for the hard work Podziemski has put into developing his all-around game since entering the league as the 19th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
During a recent episode of 'The Draymond Green Show' podcast, Green shared his happiness at seeing Podziemski earn a sizeable new contract. The veteran forward praised Podziemski for the work he's put in since joining Golden State and the growth he's shown over the past year.
“It’s good to see young guys get their due,” Green said. “You
see guys come in, put the work in, continue to improve. For BP, he’s been on a team where the guys who are getting paid kind of see it. Steph (Curry), Jimmy (Butler), myself (Kristaps Porzingis), (Jonathan Kuminga) when JK was here, obviously a young guy. Moses (Moody), younger guy, for (BP) to see the path forward to come into this league. Find his way as a rookie, continue to improve, get more comfortable with the basketball, get more comfortable shooting the basketball. And to see him get rewarded with a contract, it’s absolutely incredible. Well deserved."
Podziemski was an ever-present for Golden State last season, playing in all 82 regular-season games. With the new NBA season now just a week away, Podziemski will be gearing up for his fourth year in the league and is projected to be part of Steve Kerr's starting lineup. The Warriors have placed greater emphasis on player development in recent years as they navigate the final stages of Stephen Curry and Green's careers.
While Podziemski isn't projected to be Golden State's next superstar, he has the talent and commitment to be a key roster member, both now and in a post-Curry era. Now, the Warriors will have Podziemski for the best part of the next decade, during which he will continue to grow into an important player for the franchise.
