Kevin Durant has been one of the best players in the NBA for over a decade. Fortunately for Golden State Warriors fans, they got to watch him during his prime years, as he helped Steve Kerr's team secure back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018. Durant won the NBA Finals MVP in both of those years, too.
Since leaving the Warriors, Durant's success has been more limited, with unsuccessful stops in Brooklyn, Phoenix, and now Houston. Yet even now, when he's fully healthy, Durant is one of the premier talents in the NBA; however, the question of how much longer he has left in the league persists.
During a recent interview with Boardroom, Durant addressed that question head-on.
"It’s a young man’s sport," Durant said. "Even though I still feel like
I can play, you constantly hear: ‘You’re 38,’ ‘you’re 39,’ ‘you’re starting to get up there in age.’ So yes, I’m aware of it. But I’ve given everything to this sport, and I’m at peace with whatever comes next. I’m going to keep giving everything to basketball until I can’t anymore.”
Durant will turn 38 before the 2026-27 season gets underway. He has two years remaining on his current two-year $90 million deal, with the second year being a player option. As such, Durant is probably going to take things season by season before he ultimately decides to call time on a Hall of Fame career.
So, while Warriors fans don't get to see Durant doing his thing night in and night out anymore, they can feel content that they got the best version of him. And now, they can watch Durant from afar, as he bids to have one final championship push before the curtain comes down on his time in the league.
