Earlier this week, former NBA All-Star and Golden State Warriors point guard D'Angelo Russell agreed to an overseas move, joining the Shanghai Sharks of the CBA. Not long after, another former Warriors player decided to join him. According to BasketNews, three-time NBA champion and former Golden State center JaVale McGee has agreed to join the Sharks as well.
Although the duo of Russell and McGee were never teammates, they each played for the Warriors, Lakers and Dallas Mavericks during their NBA careers. McGee, the older of the two (38 years old), hasn't played in the NBA since the 2023-24 season and spent the 2025-26 season with the Beijing Ducks of the CBA. With the Ducks, McGee averaged 11.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 16 games.
As for Russell, the 30-year-old former No. 2 overall pick played in 26 games for the Mavericks last season, averaging 10.2 points, four assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.5 steals.
