Stephen Curry's long-term future with the Golden State Warriors has been a hot topic this summer. The veteran superstar is heading into the start of his one-year $62.5 million contract, meaning he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
At 38 years old, Curry is undoubtedly in the final stage of his career. However, as things currently stand, it appears that he'll be around for a few more years before ultimately allowing the curtain to fall. As such, the Warriors are expected to enter into contract negotiations with Curry in the coming weeks, with an extension seen as a formality due to his affinity for the Warriors.
During a recent conversation with NBC Sports Bay Area, Curry addressed his contract situation while noting that he's
not worried about when a new deal will be signed.
“There’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen,” Curry said. "The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we're not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season, and the fact that the team we’re coming back with has a lot of familiarity. Hopefully, we can be healthy and just have a chance to show what we’re capable of, myself included, missing so many games last year."
Curry struggled with a persistent knee issue last season, limiting him to just 43 appearances during the regular season. Of course, with a full summer to rest, the hope is that he'll be back to his best by the time the new campaign gets underway; after all, Golden State's best chance of success is with Curry healthy and playing at an elite level. The fact that he isn't worrying about a new contract will certainly help with that, too.
