The Golden State Warriors have released a statement regarding Kristaps Porzingis' health, ruling him out indefinitely. The team is keeping details regarding his current health issue private.
Kristaps Porzingis hasn't played a role in the Warriors' training camp. He hasn't played in any of their preseason games, and for a while, he wasn't at the team's training facility. The veteran big man recently returned to the Warriors' Bay Area training facility.
"Golden State Warriors forward/center Kristaps Porzingis, who missed training camp and the team's first five (5) preseason games due to a health-related matter, returned to the Warriors' practice facility yesterday and met with Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy and Vice President of Player Health
& Performance Dr. Rick Celebrini," the team's statement said. "The specific contents of that meeting will remain private. Porzingıs will remain out indefinitely due to the same health-related matter but will be around the team. An update on his status, including the potential resumption of practice, playing status, or timeline, will be provided when available and appropriate."
Porzingis was diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) after his final season with the Boston Celtics. It's unclear whether that is behind his more recent absences, both with the Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks, where he spent the first half of last season.
The Warriors signed Porzingis to a two-year, $40 million contract earlier this summer. The second year of that deal is a player option. The hope is that Porzingis can fully recover and play a big role in Steve Kerr's rotation this season. Currently, though, it's hard to say how things will play out. Golden State opens its season on the road, facing the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 21.
