After playing just five games over his last two NBA seasons, former Golden State Warriors center and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman is fighting for a roster spot with the NBA's defending champions. During the Knicks' preseason opener Monday night, Wiseman made his debut for New York, coming off the bench, playing behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond. Wiseman played nine minutes, tallying eight points on 3-for-4 shooting to go along with five rebounds and one block.
Despite high expectations coming out of Memphis, Wiseman has yet to live up to the hype at the NBA level. In two seasons with Golden State, Wiseman made only 60 appearances, as a knee injury sidelined him for his entire sophomore season. After 21 games during the 2022-23
campaign, the Warriors sent Wiseman to Detroit in a four-team trade that netted Golden State Gary Payton II.
Since then, Wiseman made 92 NBA appearances, suiting up with the Indiana Pacers for four games during the 2025-26 season.
