The Brooklyn Nets are about one month away from beginning training camp in late September to start preparations for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA campaign that they hope will be better than last season. While Brooklyn will be concerned with winning as many games as possible along with developing the younger players on the roster, there could be more at stake over the course of next season.
"The degree of disaster represented by their five first-round picks last season is certainly overstated. Egor Demin would go behind Collin Murray-Boyles and Cedric Coward in a redraft, but he looks like a starter," Sam Quinn wrote about the Nets for CBS Sports. Quinn's article focused primarily on evaluating Brooklyn's front-office at this point in the offseason,
but one of those angles is addressing what will come from the Nets' 2025 NBA Draft class.
"The other first-round picks were between No. 19 and No. 27, all of which come with relatively low hit rates, and it's too soon to call any of them busts after just a single season," Quinn continued. "Still, spending that many picks in the same draft on on-ball players was puzzling. The Nets didn't exactly put them in a position to succeed."
As Quinn alluded to, Nets general manager Sean Marks and Brooklyn's front-office made quite the investment in the 2025 draft when they selected five players in the first round. After Brooklyn's summer circuit in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, many around the league are intrigued by guard Egor Demin, but are pretty mum on the rest of Brooklyn's class.
Assuming that the Nets' starting lineup next season is Mikel Brown Jr., Demin, Michael Porter Jr., Julius Randle, and Day'Ron Sharpe, the other four members of Brooklyn's 2025 class will be coming off the bench to some extent. Based off the rotation from last season, players like Drake Powell and Ben Saraf may have to impress in camp to get substantial for head coach Jordi Fernandez, but it seems like the entire 2025 will be viewed under a microscope.
