The Brooklyn Nets are just a couple of weeks away from training camp as they look forward to putting forth a better product on the floor during the 2026-27 NBA season. Brooklyn has had various players and coaches that have represented the organization over the years, but one of those former coaches is looking to continue his career on the sidelines if a team has an opening.

"I love coaching. I love to watch players get better. I want to win, I want to help the team. I'm just at home really trying to enjoy my family," former Nets head coach Jason Kidd said during his interview with Rappler's Delfin Dioquino. Kidd coached the Nets for one season during the 2013-14 campaign, but since then, he has led the sidelines for the Milwaukee Bucks and Mavericks.

I'm just watching the game and seeing if I can help others still from the coaching side. I'm always talking to Jalen Brunson and to Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. So, I'n just trying to help others now that I'm not coaching," Kidd continued. Kidd and the Mavericks agreed to mutually part ways this summer after a 2025-26 season that saw Dallas finish with a 26-56 record.

Kidd, who played for the then-New Jersey Nets from 2001-02 to the middle of the 2007-08 campaign, has been doing well in his post-playing career given that he has rarely been without a head-coaching position over the past 13 years. As of this writing, Kidd has a 388-395 regular season record and has a 31-33 record coaching in the playoffs, including when he took the Mavericks to the NBA Finals during the 2023-24 season.

Kidd, 53, had arguably the best stretch of his playing career during his time with the Nets as he averaged 14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 39.7% from the field and 34.2% from three-point land. Time will tell if Kidd will get another shot to be a head coach in the NBA given that all of the 30 teams have their coaches set, but it seems like the Nets legend isn't ready to call it quits just yet.
