The Brooklyn Nets are in the slow part of the 2026 NBA offseason now that they're done with the 2026 NBA Draft, summer league play, and free-agency for the most part. Brooklyn is still in the early stages of the rebuild and as such, they will be continuing to evaluate young talent. Based on some unique circumstances, the Nets could be looking at taking another talented player next year.
"Abdou Toure should generate the bulk of his production and highlights off his physical tools, athleticism and motor," Jonathan Wasserman wrote on Toure when breaking down his version of the 2027 NBA Draft. Wasserman projected the Nets to end up with the No. 19 overall pick due to the Houston Rockets owning the rights to Brooklyn's first-round pick in the 2027 draft.
"He's more of a wing or forward than a guard, which could cause some hesitation since he's only listed at 6'5". However, Toure's handle and shotmaking seem to improve each year, and enough production and skill flashes should lead to first-round interest, especially if he shows some promising signs with his three-point range," Wasserman continued on Toure.
Toure will be spending his freshman season playing for head coach John Calipari at the University of Arkansas and given Calipari's track record to his players becoming solid pros, Toure could be well on his way to beginning his NBA career sometime soon. As a senior at Notre Dame High School, Toure averaged 24.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting over 70% from the field and over 40% from behind the three-point line.
With the Nets moving into the 2026-27 season with players like Mikel Brown Jr. and Egor Demin in the fold, the hope is that the team is better than expected so that Houston won't be getting such a high pick. However, Brooklyn has to focus on the future instead of trying to fix the past and to that point, the Nets could be looking at someone like Toure to bolster the amount of talented, young players on the roster moving forward.
