The Brooklyn Nets
recently ended their preseason slate prior to the beginning of the 2026-27 NBA regular season with a 144-128 loss at forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat on Wednesday. Brooklyn has been using training camp and the preseason to evaluate different lineups and combinations of players, but it looks like the franchise is moving on from one player after the conclusion of the preseason. The Nets announced on Thursday that they have requested waivers on forward Ben Humrichous after signing him to a contract prior to the beginning of camp. Humrichous was one of the players, along with forward/center Dain Dainja, that Brooklyn brought in to compete for a roster spot during camp, but it seems that there isn't enough space for the sharpshooter.
Humrichous, 24, went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft this past summer after a collegiate career that took him from Huntington to Evansville and finally to the University of Illinois for his fifth and sixth seasons. Humrichous got on with the Nets' summer league team and in six games spanning the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, he averaged 6.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 36.1% from the field and 38.2% from behind the three-point line.
Humrichous did not play much for the Nets during the preseason as he averaged 5.4 minutes played per game across two appearances, showing where he stood within the roster. Given Humrichous' shooting ability, he should be able to find a spot with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn's G League afiliate, and there is always the possibility that he could earn NBA minutes at some point this season.
As it stands as of this writing, the Nets are now at 15 standard contracts and three Two-Way contracts, meaning that their roster is compliant prior to their regular season beginning in their home opener next Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets. Brooklyn was able to evaluate almost every player on the roster over the course of camp and the preseason, but it looks like Humrichous didn't make the cut.
The Nets have requested waivers on F Ben Humrichous. Humrichous was signed for training camp and he has played in only 2 of Brooklyn's preseason games and averaged just 5.4 minutes per outing. This could pave the way for Humrichous to join the Long Island Nets in the G League.
