Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin has been having a slow start to the 2026-27 NBA season as he adapts to playing more of an on-ball role to begin the campaign. Brooklyn has been hoping that Demin would be able to take a leap in his second season, but it looks like he has more adversity to deal with than just the poor shooting games he has been putting forth.
"[It's a] contusion, and then, we'll see from there," Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said when asked if he had more information on Demin following his suffering a right leg contusion in Tuesday's 125-124 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics. Demin played just 10 minutes despite being one of the starting guards due to suffering his injury towards the end of the first half in a play involving
Celtics guard Paul George.
"I'll be good. It's nothing serious so I'll be ready to go," Demin said after the game. "I just kneed in a muscle-bone area, like a funny spot. I don't know how many times I got hit there before so I was fine. Obviously, I had to get out [of the game], and now, it feels better than [it did] right away. I think I'll be ready in a couple of days."
Demin looked like he was on his way to another rough game as he had just two points on 1-of-3 shooting from the field and two assists, but he was a +2 in plus/minus at the same time. With Demin leaving the game, the Nets were down one player from their rotation and by the end of the game, Brooklyn also had to eventually deal with the absences of guard Nolan Traore (cramping), forward Julius Randle (fouled out), and forward Chaney Johnson (fouled out).
Part of the reason that the Nets were able to send the game to overtime was due to the efforts of Randle, forward Michael Porter Jr., and rookie guard Mikel Brown Jr., who had 13 points in the fourth quarter. Despite Demin not seeming worried about his leg injury, he wasn't sure about his playing status for Friday's NBA Cup game against the visiting Detroit Pistons.
"I have no idea. Whatever is going to be needed to be checked or whatever it is, I have no idea. I'm just working here." Fernandez and Demin did not have much information to provide about how long the second-year guard will be out of the lineup, but the hope is that he isn't out for long.
