The Brooklyn Nets will be hoping for the kind of 2026-27 NBA campaign that the organization and fanbase can be proud of after struggling to win games over the past few years. Brooklyn switched up their roster by trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle to give themselves a better chance of competing next season, but there is something else that Nets fans can look forward to.
"It's happening: Per sources, the Brooklyn Nets will be holding a Swamp Dragons night on Jan. 29 as part of a series of 'eras nights' celebrating franchise history. There will be merchandise, I'm told," Zach Lowe of The Ringer wrote Wednesday on X. While the Nets confirmed the "Swamp Dragons" aspect of them celebrating their history next season, the franchise did
put out what the goal of next season will be.
"The Brooklyn Nets today unveiled plans for the franchise's 60th season campaign, presented by Ticketmaster, a yearlong celebration honoring six decades of basketball, culture and reinvention," the Nets wrote in a press release on Wednesday. "Throughout the 2026-27 season, the Nets will honor the players, teams, and milestones that have defined the franchise while creating new moments that will shape its future."
As the Nets head into their 60th season in existence, nine years in the ABA and 51 years in the NBA, fans will be expecting more from the team than just celebrations of the past. Brooklyn chose to trade for Randle to add to a core of forward Michael Porter Jr. and guard Egor Demin, just to name a couple, as the organization is trying to get itself out of the bottom of the Association.
From Julius Erving to Kevin Durant and everything in between, the Nets have plenty to celebrate, especially as the franchise went from New Jersey to New York to build a wider audience. While many fans will be hoping that Brooklyn will be good enough to make it to the postseason in any capacity, but if that doesn't happen, the Nets will be making something of next season either way.
