The Brooklyn Nets have had some great players play for the organization in the 60-year history of the franchise, but it wasn't too long ago that the Nets were considered title contenders. Brooklyn once had forward Kevin Durant and guard Kyrie Irving in the fold and while the Nets did not come close to winning a title, Durant says that was the best team he's ever played on.
"We had the names on that team when you're just looking at straight paper. I know people are gonna say the [Golden State] Warriors. You had Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson], but, when you look at that team though, Steph was an MVP, but Klay and Draymond [Green] didn't get the accolades at that time," Durant said during the most recent episode of his "Boardroom" podcast. Durant seems
to hold those Nets teams in the highest regard.
"These dudes I'm talking about had already completed their careers [and] damn near got all of the accolades and on top of me, James [Harden] and Kyrie," Durant continued. "So when you just look at when you just put an accolades on the table, I would say that team. But obviously the best team I played on was the Warriors. I want to say the 2019 team was crazy, but we got hurt with [DeMarcus] Cousins at the five. That's probably the best team."
To Durant's point, the best Nets team that he was on, record-wise, was the 2020-21 season when he shared the floor with Irving and James Harden. Brooklyn finished that campaign with a 48-24 record (second in the Eastern Conference) and made it to the Eastern Conference Semi-finals where they ultimately lost to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in seven games.
Durant remained objective by acknowledging that he had the best run of his career with the Warriors when he won two championships in his three years with the organization. This is the down part of the offseason so actual news around the NBA is going to be few and far between, but players like Durant will keep the news cycle going with their podcasts remembering the past.
