NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets guard Keon Ellis was one of the additions that the Nets made in free-agency as the team is trying to improve from a 20-62 record last season. Brooklyn is hoping that Ellis' ability to defend on the perimeter and shoot the three-pointer will help the Nets win more games, but he also wants to bring intangibles to one of the youngest teams in the NBA.
"It was definitely nice, something different, too. Just to see the preparation that goes into each game, it's definitely way different than regular season," Ellis said during his Media Day interview on Monday. Ellis experience the playoffs for the first time in his four-year career last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and he explained how he plans to bring that experience to such
a young team.
"But, just me staying even keel, that's just something that I do. I think with those type of situations that we had in the playoffs, that kind of is just similar," Ellis continued. "But, I would just say it's more of the same thing that I already do."
Ellis, 26, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 6.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 44.0% from the field and 36.3% from behind the three-point line. Ellis split last season between the Sacramento Kings and Cavaliers, but it seemed like he had more to learn as he played just 7.4 minutes per game for Cleveland in their run to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Ellis is likely to be one of the veterans to be coming off the bench, but with his reputation as a 3-and-D wing, head coach Jordi Fernandez should be able to find a way to use him on a nightly basis. The Nets are beginning their preparations for the 2026-27 season with training camp starting earlier this week and Ellis knows he has the experience to pair with his skillset for this team.
